Hi and thank you for considering me to watch over your precious little one(s) at this very special time of transition in your life.  I am truly blessed to have a growing love for what I do.  I love variety and challenges, so I have taken many different types of opportunities and thus gained varied job and educational experiences!  In fact that is what lead me to this wonderful specialization!  Throughout the years I have had education in Social, Human, and Abnormal Psychology, Family Theory, Child, Adolescent and Human Development, and experience with contrasting child rearing philosophies, leading to a continually adjusting balanced approach.  I see life as a learning experience and I learn and improve myself with each family I have the blessing of working with.

In 2007 I became a step mom to two sweet kids and In Decemeber of '09 we added to the family a baby of my own!  It is something I have wanted my entire life and I am so happy to be a mommy!  I am continually going through parenthood "not as planned" which adds daily to my understanding and empathy of what you may be experiencing!

I am an advocate of the RIE Respect approach, similar to Tracey Hogg's  Baby Whisperer concepts.  I also support early learning in infant development.  I am a board member of the NCSA (Newborn Care Specialist Association) ncsainfo.com

Ever since I was a little girl I have been captivated by those younger than me.  In the summer of 1992 I found my niche by starting a babysitting business where I successfully gained my first years of experience.  For over 16 years I’ve continued in-home childcare serving more than 50 families, progressing from “babysitter” to “mother’s helper” to professional “nanny,” and now to “Newborn Care Specialist.”  I am grateful to the many families who have become a wonderful part of my life and contributed to who I am today!

In exploration of the love I have for babies, children, and families, I took several child development courses towards my Associates degree and decided to major in family science at the University.  In 2005 I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in “Marriage, Family, and Human Development.”  A few years ago I was introduced to the RIE method of child rearing by a parent who hired me as a part time nanny.  I have loved many of the principles of this philosophy and continue to use it in my work and personal life.  After working with preemie triplet babies my heart lead me to further my education into newborn care.  I recently passed and completed the NCS training program and am progressing towards becoming a nationally certified newborn care specialist.

I am experienced in working with infants to teenagers, single parents to nuclear families, stay at home parents to working couples.  I’ve worked with preemie triplets with an older sibling, preemie twins, school aged twins with a younger sibling, only children up to families with 5 children.  Some of the special needs I’ve worked with are cardiac kids, social behavior issues, speech delays, torticollis, and autism spectrum disorder.  I have experience with the Apnea monitor, and am First Aid/CPR Certified.

I love to travel, especially to tropical places!  I enjoy health food, sushi, Indian cuisine, wine, and cooking.  I work out and do yoga regularly, and occasionally hike, swim, play tennis and volleyball.  I am great with details, organizing, planning, and asking a lot of questions!  I do my best to stay current on the latest issues and alternative natural solutions.  I prefer natural treatments such as acupuncture, massage, careful diet, homeopathy, and other holistic approaches to prevent and treat health and medical issues.  I believe that tolerance and acceptance of all people and their respective beliefs is the true test, and continue to develop and discover my own.

               What's RIE?
                                                                              www.rie.org

RIE is a Respect Philiosphy.  A parent that hired me to care for her precious little girl introduced it to me and i have used it ever since.  I do not follow all of its tenants but I have taken the core concepts and applied them to my daily life and interactions.

When I talk to a child you are hearing RIE in action.  The way I talk to children is different than most people in that I take time to get on their level, listen to them, acknowledge what they are saying, and respond or advise if/as necessary.

RIE's approach is slow to intervene, allowing the carer to observe more and trust the child to work out their own situations while support stands by whenever they need it.  By observing we learn our children much better and reciprocate trust and respect in each other from the first days of life!

I use this respect approach in working with all ages and a Newborn Care Specialist and as a Nanny.

Training and Credentials

I recently completed the NCSA Approved courses for Newborn Care Specialists. I am trained in swaddling, feeding, bathing, diapering, scheduling, sleep training and other neonatal and post partum matters such as cord and circumcision care, apnea, colic, gas and reflux. Aside from loving and caring for infants, as an NSC and experienced nanny I educate and empower parents on the newest and oldest techniques of newborn, infant, and child care. I do my best to stay current on the latest issues and alternative natural solutions.
