Night Time Awake Duty Newborn Care ($20-$35 an hour, or 24 hour care rate)
Night time awake duty is very rarely needed. Only severe medical issues or risks warrent this type of care. Short term awake duty available in rare cases by assesment. Offered best in conjunction with 12 or 24 hour care. Because of the medical issues warrenting this type of care, awake duty is best performed by RNs or LNPs already accustomed to working overnight shifts, as this type of schedule affects the NCSs life 24/7 on and off the job.
Having been a nanny for so long I have a lot of great resources for nanny searching, interviewing, hiring, and training. But that isn't all. I have a love for personality types and typing, which is absolutely essential in finding the right care provider for you! Whether you are replacing me after our time is done, or I am not quite what you are looking for, I know I can help you find the girl that is right for you and your family! I cost much less than an agency, and can spare you the time, exhaustion and frustration while eliminating the nonsense and just finding that one perfect girl for you!
How Does it Work?
Rates listed are for most cases; special medical needs or more than 3 babies may warrant a higher rate. Each situation assesed individually. Want more specifics about how any of my services work? Need more info on specials, referrals, gift certificates and promos? Call or email, I am here for you!
What is "Sleep Training" and Why Should My Baby Like most NCSs I use and recommend the Miracle Blanket for swaddling!
Be Sleep Trained?
There are 100's of books on babies and sleep... so infant sleep is clearly an issue in most american families! I can use a variety of approaches to sleep train newborns, but I prefer the slow and gentle methods. These approaches need to be implemented early on so call and book ahead of time as they take longer but are much easier on parents and babies.
A time tested book with a balanced view of crying a controversial and emotional topic), and easy to understand dialect is "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Dr. Marc Weissbluth. Here are quotes and adaptations from his book about the importance newborn sleep and acheiving a well rested family.
"Healthy sleep habits do not develop automatically." The process of falling asleep is learned! Unfortunantely, it is common for parents to hinder their babies development of healthy sleep habits, and healthy sleep is crucial for the developing brain. Sleep deficiency in childhood may harm neurological development, and the problems don't show up until later.
"Sleep is a powerful modifier of mood, behavior, performance, and personality."
"Prevention and treatment of unhealthy sleep habits in infants and young children are important because if they are uncorrected they will persist...Children do not simply outgrow these problems...The younger the child, the more successful you will be in reversing the ill effects of unhealthy sleep."
What about "Crying It Out" (CIO)?
Crying it out is seen by many as a rather extreme method of sleep training. It works, it's quick, and best done by a professional with the parents away for 3 nights. I can use the "CIO" method if your baby is over 12 lbs and 12 weeks old and you want them sleeping thru the night fast. But, I find it less shocking and more respectful to the baby, as well as easier on the parents to be called in early and take the time to do a gradual approach. This will involve a little bit of crying as crying is a baby's language, but it is in no way harmful physically or emotionally for your baby. As Dr. Weissbluth says: "Encouraging healthy sleep habits will prevent a lot of crying in the future." And "perfect timing creates no crying."
We won't always be perfect at seeing and acting on our babies and childrens cues, which is what leads to most bedtime crying in newborns and children. Crying is a part of life, which is why I prefer the slow and gentle ways of sleep training newborns and their parents. Although I do not usually recommend the"CIO" or "cry it out" approach, I can and may recommend it for some families based on their desires, timing, and needs.
Why sleep train? Because when babies sleep well, mommies,
daddies, brothers, and sisters sleep well!
